TUARARANGAIA 1B

History

This block is part of the land awarded to the Tuhoe claimants in Native Land Court determination of title hearing for the Tuararangaia block. The block was ceded to the Crown for Native schools agreed to by the owners on the 27th August 1912 at Tauarau Marae. The Crown harvested the native trees, never built a school and it is unclear as to where the monies received from the trees ended up.

At a hui held on 27th August 1972 at Rewarewa Marae it was resolved that the land should be vested back into the rightful owners and administered by the TWMTB. Land was vested to TWMTB on 1st October 1980.
