The Board is now in the process of seeking legal advice with regards to the removal of Tuarangaia 1B from under the Trust Board’s Charitable Deed of Declaration.  Once a clear pathway has been identified, the Board’s administration will work with the elected trustees toward achieving the desired outcome.

Meanwhile, Te Arangi Marr (Lands Trust Administrator), has scheduled a series of meetings with the trustees as part of the transition process in an eventual handover by December 2011.  A field trip organized for the 12th August to the land block will provide a knowledge of the physical locality, an opportunity for trustees to meet the forest management, and their respective crews.  Further arrangements have been scheduled to meet with current banking institutes, the accountant, law firms, and forest advisors.  All trustees will receive a comprehensive transition information pack shortly.

Carbon credit registration is currently being undertaken CO2NZ for Tuararangaia.  This has been co-ordinated between the trust Board and Tuhoe Establishment Trust.  There is no doubt that the Board’s relationship with TET on this matter has added the best possible value for beneficiaries. We look forward to the completion of this project prior to handover.

A final reminder to beneficial land owners that if you have a change of address to please submit an update

through the website www.tuhoe.iwi.nz ., or alternately you may contact the Office on 07 3129580.

History

This block is part of the land awarded to the Tuhoe claimants in Native Land Court determination of title hearing for the Tuararangaia block. The block was ceded to the Crown for Native schools agreed to by the owners on the 27th August 1912 at Tauarau Marae. The Crown harvested the native trees, never built a school and it is unclear as to where the monies received from the trees ended up.

At a hui held on 27th August 1972 at Rewarewa Marae it was resolved that the land should be vested back into the rightful owners and administered by the TWMTB. Land was vested to TWMTB on 1st October 1980.
