MLC minutes appear to recognize that this land does not belong to the Tuhoe tribe as a whole, but a segment of that tribe and the MLC observes that “this argument may well be raised again at some future date.” Nonetheless, vesting the land in all the beneficiaries of the TWMTB was deemed to be “expedient in this case as the beneficial owners do not appear to have been determined.” The Vesting Order appears to be a pragmatic solution to an earlier failure to determine persons beneficially entitled.
The beneficial owners of Ruatoki A 16B are “the lawful beneficiaries of the Tuhoe-Waikaremoana Maori Trust Board.”
Land Use
There are currently 4 kaumatua flats and a Kokiri centre on this block. The Kaumatua flats have undergone thorough renovations and as a result are looking very smart and provide a much healthier environment for our kaumatua.
The Kokiri Centre is currently tenanted.
